Miniature English Bulldog

Miniature English Bulldog

Named after the craft they were bred for, bull dogs were first used in the baiting, controlling and guarding of bulls. During the Middle Ages, this was considered a sport beloved by noblemen and royalty. The thought was, if the bulls were baited before being slaughtered, the meat would be more nutritious and tender.

With strong and muscular hindquarters, the Miniature English Bulldog has a broad muzzle and short faced characterized by loose folds of skin with low-set eyes. They feature a broad and deep chest with rounded ribs and powerful forelegs with a compact carriage.

Personality

With a natural protectiveness to their owners, Miniature English Bulldogs make excellent companions and will do anything to make people laugh. They're very brave and extremely sensitive to others' moods and will adjust their own mood accordingly to comfort when needed or be playful when needed. These dogs are persistent yet playful beyond their years. They're also great with children and act as their fierce protectors. Some dogs would rather sit around and snooze while others are much more energetic and require a walk every day.

Breed Talents and Facts

The Miniature English Bulldog is a downsized purebred English Bulldog and is never mixed with other breeds. Mini English Bulldogs do well in apartment settings because indoors, they are particularly inactive. While they don't need a big yard to play in, many dogs do like to get some kind of exercise daily. They can't always cool off effectively in extremely hot weather so keeping them in air conditioning is wise during the peak of summer. The life expectancy is between 10 and 12 years, with females tending to live longer than males. Some reports say mini bulldogs have lived up to 17 years but this is rare. A common nickname of this type of dog is simply Mini English Bulldog or Mini Bull. It belongs to the group Mastiff.
