Olde Boston Bulldogge

Olde Boston Bulldogge

The Olde Boston Bulldogge is a small bulldog named after Boston, its place of origin. This dog breed enjoys a reputation for being the original Boston Bull, the ancestor of the modern-day Boston Terrier. In the late 1800s, people in Boston who fought dogs for entertainment wanted to create a better fighting breed. So, they crossed English Bulldogs with White English Terriers. However, the performance of this new dog breed fell below expectations, and eventually it was relegated to house pet status. Since the White English Terrier is now extinct, the Olde Boston Bulldogge breeding mix can never be replicated.

A small or medium-sized dog, the Olde Boston Bulldogge weighs between 20 to 45 pounds. Males stand at 14 to 18 inches at the shoulder; females are around 14 to 17 inches. The head features a broad and short muzzle with a wide broad nose, and spaced-out moderate-sized eyes with a medial furrow. The neck is short or medium with a muscular build. The chest is wide and deep, with well sprung ribs. The back is short with a slight rise from the shoulders to the rump. The coat of the dog is short and smooth; and it is usually in black, black and white, red, brindle, or blue and fawn. Regardless of color, the coat possesses some amount of white.

Personality

The Olde Boston Bulldogge is generally mild-tempered and affectionate. It is very easy to train and particularly loves to do tricks. The dog is not known for barking without reason, and it is very protective of its owner and does not easily yield to threats. Apart from extreme temperatures, this dog breed can live virtually anywhere; they are particularly suited for apartment and country living. The Olde Boston Bulldogge is a steadfast and loyal bread; thus it requires a very decisive and resolute master.
