Poodle Mix

Poodle Mix

From the Boxerdoodle and Aussiedoodle to the Cockapoo and Pekepoo, the traditional poodle as you know it has been bred with countless breeds to come up with hybrid dogs. The standard poodle first originated in the 15th century in Western Europe. This descendant of the French Water Dog, the Barbet and Hungarian Water Hound, the word poodle comes from the German "Pudel," referring to its love of the water. The poodle was beloved for its intelligence and trainability. The 18th century saw the emergence of smaller poodles popular with the royals. There are three types of poodles today: toy, miniature and standard. They can be mixed with anything from Basset Hounds and Bichon Frises to Pomeranians and Beagles.

Standard poodles typically grow to 15 inches or more. Males weigh 45 to 70 pounds and females weigh 45 to 60 pounds. Of course, these sizes will depend heavily on the exact mix you have. This dog features a rounded skull, long muzzle, oval-shaped eyes, long and flat ears, high tail and arched toes, with a coat that is usually all one color such as a black, blue, white, brown or cream.

Personality

Proud, graceful and noble, the Poodle is cheerful and good natured. It's also easy to train. It needs plenty of exercise or it can get yappy and frustrated. Poodles need calm yet firm discipline to establish dominance. However, too hard discipline can scare the dog. Poodles generally like being with others and don't want to be left in a kennel. Friendly with strangers, Poodles are also great with kids and even other dogs. Poodles do well within small homes or apartments because they remain inactive when inside. They should get at least some exercise outside each day.
