A Shel-Aussie is the hybrid cross of a Shetland sheepdog and an Australian shepherd. Shel-Aussies weigh between 30 and 65 pounds. Their coats are dense, coarse and straight, and they may display color combinations of black, brown, white or merle. Expect moderate shedding from these dogs, and be prepared to brush their coats regularly to prevent matting. Shel-Aussies have earflaps that either hang downward or stand partially upward.

Behaviour and Personality

Shel-Aussies are intelligent, and their eagerness to learn and please their owners makes them easy to train. They are alert watchdogs. They make loyal family dogs, but their herding instincts may prompt them to herd smaller household members. They are playful and active, and they enjoy fetching. Shel-Aussies are true to their working dog instincts, and they need to be provided with tasks to do and with plenty of mental stimulation to thrive.
