Basset Artesien Normand

The Basset Artesian Normand originates from Normandy and Artois. One of the six recognized French basset breeds, this one dates back some 500 years. Today's standard basset Artesian Normand was developed by a French breeder named Leon Verrier.

The Basset Artesien Normands are short dogs and known for their sad eyes and floppy ears. The basset breeds look so similar to one another that it can be difficult for the novice to tell one from another. The Artesian Normandy is smaller than the typically-seen basset hound, weighing only 33 pounds on average. Like other bassets, this one has an elongated back and thick, sturdy legs. Any hound color pattern is acceptable in the Artesian Normand. Personality: This dog is a courageous and headstrong animal. It is gentle with children and other pets, and it gives a warm welcome to all who enter the home. Like all basset breeds, the Artesian Normand rarely meets a stranger. This hound gets along with children and other pets when socialized properly as a puppy. The dog is a happy one, as excited to be out on the hunt as it is to cuddle on the couch. It is difficult to find an Artesian Normand that is anything but pleasant to be around.
