This breed hales from Germany. A scent hound, it has been used since the Middle Ages to keep track of wounded game as it winds its way through fields and forests. The dog originates from the Hanover Hound and the Bavarian Hound.

Bavarian Mountain Hounds are a medium to large breed. Males average 19 inches tall at the withers, and females average 18 inches tall. Weight for both genders averages 48 to 50 pounds. The dog is a sturdy, well-muscled one, and it should be kept slim. With proper exercise, the dog maintains a well-defined body. Personality: These dogs are calm and quiet, especially for hounds. They love their families and can become quite attached to humans. A large breed, the Bavarian Mountain Hound is surprisingly fast and agile, experiencing great joy in running and chasing.
