Hanover Hound

The Hanover Hound is a rather large dog that originated in Germany where it was used to track and hunt such game as deer and bears. They are known by a variety of different names including Hanover Hounds, Hanoverian Hounds, Hanoverian Scenthounds and Hannoverscher Schweisshunds. The Hanover Hound was named after its birth place, Hanover, Germany. They are descendants of ancient hunting hounds that were known as Liam Hounds. By crossing Liam Hounds with other scenthounds such as Heidebrackes and Bavarian Hounds, an excellent tracking hound was created. These dogs soon came to be known as Hanover Hounds. While Hanover Hounds were most commonly used to scent and track such large game as deer and bears, the dogs were also occasionally used as loyal companions and guard dogs. Today, the breed continues to be an excellent hunting dog. However, it is rarely seen outside of Germany.

Hanover Hounds are large dogs that can weigh anywhere between 80 and 100 pounds as adults. These are stocky, muscular dogs that have long droopy ears, a large head and a long tail. They have short hair that can be light to dark red brindle. They should also have a black mask and may have a white spot on the chest. Personality: The Hanover Hound is a good-natured dog, and while it is also intelligent, it can be quite stubborn. As such, it may be a bit difficult to train. Although the Hanover Hound is very gentle and can get along well with children, due to its hunting instincts, it does not interact well with cats or other small household pets. Although Hanover Hounds originated in Germany and were developed to hunt such game as bears and deer, they were often used as loyal companions as well. However, if you are considering adding one of the dogs to your home, you will want to be sure to provide it with plenty of exercise and room to run and explore.
