Miniature Pug

The Miniature Pug is essentially a mix of Chihuahua and Pug, with a canine that looks very much like a Pug except for a slightly longer snout. It is derived from the original Pug breed, which came on the scene back in 400 BC. It was a popular dog in 19th century Victorian times, when they were kept as pets in Tibetan monasteries.

The Miniature Pug weighs only about three pounds when full grown. This breed is short, stocky and thickset, with a large head and square muzzle. Tail is high set, with large dark eyes and small ears with button nose. Characterized by deep wrinkles, Mini Pugs have soft, shiny coats in colors like beige, black and silver. Personality: Animated and happy, Mini Pugs are a joy to be around and make great companions for life. This loyal, loving and affectionate dog is playful and intelligent. They can be willful, though, so it's important to establish dominance early on with a confident tone of voice and strong sense of discipline. Miniature Pugs are devoted to their owners and as such make very good watchdogs. When not disciplined by their humans or when they feel superior to humans, they can get jealous and become guardians of anything from food to toys to furniture.

Grooming
Low maintenance

The smooth, short hair of your Pug is easy to maintain. Simply use a firm-bristle brush to groom when necessary, along with a bath every once in a while. It's important to dry your Pug after a bath so he doesn't get too cold. Because Pugs have lots of wrinkles, take care to clean their facial creases regularly. You may need to groom your dog more often when it sheds due to seasonal changes.

Common Health Conditions in Miniature Pugs

Pugs are susceptible to colds and allergies. They also suffer from chronic breathing conditions, as evidenced by their wheezing and snoring. They also get skin rashes, mast cell tumors, Pug Dog Encephalitis (PDE), keratitis (an inflammation of the cornea) and corneal ulcers. They can also get weeping eye very easily. Never overfeed your dog because he will eat what's in front of him, become obese and thus shorten his life expectancy.

Miniature Pug Pet Insurance

When adding a dog or cat to your family you want to make sure your pet is happy, healthy and protected. During its lifetime your pet is exposed to many illnesses and diseases and some breeds are affected by a congenital disease which is a condition existing at birth. At these moments when your pet is ill or maybe needs surgery, you want to be protected for the unexpected and high veterinarian costs.
