Puggle

The Puggle is a cute mix of Beagle and Pug. Puggles first came about when they were bred by Wallace Havens in the 1990s. Since then, this breed has become increasingly popular thanks to its adorable looks and sweet, accommodating nature. It's not a recognized breed as of now.

Puggles can grow up to 13 to 15 inches tall, weighing in at between 18 and 30 pounds. Toy Puggles typically don't grow taller than 13 inches, and they weigh between 8 and 17 pounds. Featuring a wrinkled face and hanging ears, Puggles have a short, smooth double coat in colors such as red, tan, lemon and black. They also have a black facial mask and a medium length tail that tends to curl over. Personality: If you love sweet, intelligent dogs, the Puggle may be for you. They make great family companions and do well with children. Characterized by their playful and cuddly nature, Puggles truly enjoy spending time with their humans. They even get along with other pets. They may howl, bark, dig or wander on occasion, especially if bored. They require an early introduction into socialization that includes exposure to all kinds of people, situations, experiences and environments.

Grooming
Medium maintenance

Because they shed quite a bit, you'll need to brush your Puggle at least once a week. Clean the folds of the skin thoroughly along with the muzzle and eyes to keep dirt and dust away. Give your dog's eyes a once-over to ensure they're not red or have a white discharge. Puggles require regular dental care and nail clipping. They need their teeth brushed a few times a week and their nails trimmed once or twice a month at least.

Breed's Talents and Facts

Training
Moderately easy
  • Puggles need about a half hour of playtime outdoors per day
  • They are not happy to laze about indoors all day long
  • If they aren't taken outside, they will run around the house
  • They're great to take for a walk, but if you're looking to jog, do it sans Puggle
  • They have a lot of energy and need to let it out by racing around a spacious yard
  • Don't be surprised if they dig a lot, too
  • The Puggle has no known nickname, perhaps because its name is already a combination of Beagle and Pug
  • Puggles normally have a life expectancy of between 10 and 15 years
