A change in posture, refusal to move, inability to walk properly, yelping, crying, visible injuries to the back, fever, and loss of appetite are signs that your pet may have pain in the back.

Possible causes of pain in the back include trauma, a fracture or dislocation, kidney disease, disc disorders, infection, and inflammation.


Your veterinarian will perform a physical exam on your pet, and may use an X-ray, MRI, or CT scan to further examine the back.
