The pet has a painful or difficult defecation, this is know as straining while defecating and occurs when they cannot produce anything. The most common reasons for straining while defecating are metabolic disorders, hard stools and constipation. However, other reasons that may cause cats and dogs to strain while defecting include intestinal masses or other obstructions, impacted or infected anal glands, gastroenteritis, prostate enlargement and hernias.
When adding a dog or cat to your family you want to make sure your pet is happy, healthy and protected. During its lifetime your pet is exposed to many illnesses and diseases and some breeds are affected by a congenital disease which is a condition existing at birth. At these moments when your pet is ill or maybe needs surgery, you want to be protected for the unexpected and high veterinarian costs.
