Loss of conscience of the pet or physical strength. Collapsing is never normal in either a dog or a cat. The loss of conscience may be caused by a lack of blood in the brain, which can be dangerous. Also a hit to the head can cause a dog or cat to lose conscious. Always consult a veterinarian in case of a collapse of your cat or dog.

How to Recognize

If your pet suddenly falls down, it’s a sign of an emergency. Your pet will most likely be unable to stand back up and may also lose consciousness or appear confused or anxious when they collapse.

Your pet may collapse due to loss of consciousness, stress, trauma, physical exhaustion or dehydration. Possible underlying conditions include heart failure, heart disease, hypoglycemia, or another existing condition.

Seek emergency veterinary care immediately. Your veterinarian will take your pet\'s blood pressure, run several blood tests, and use an Electrocardiogram to look at your pet\'s heart.

Treatment varies depending the cause of the collapse.
