Cats and dogs can have an itch because of an allergic reaction, infection, a neurogenic condition, or parasites. Itching is a sensation localized on the skin of your pet. Also the diet of your pet can cause your pet to itch. In case of excessive itching, it is advised to consult a veterinarian to determine the exact cause of the itch.

How to Recognize

While all pets itch, constant itching is usually sign your pet is uncomfortable or distressed.

Your pet usually itches because he/she is irritated by something. Your pet may have fleas, lice, ticks, or other parasites. Itching may also be caused by dry skin, allergies, pain, or anxiety.

If left untreated, incessant itching can cause a hot spot, which is a red, wet area on your dog that is often irritated and sore. If your pet is suffering from parasites, be sure to wash your pet\\\'s bed and any other material they may have rubbed against. Several medications exist to fight off parasites.
