As in human beings, a female cat or dog can be infertile. Intact females are not spayed. Sterility in intact females, also known as infertility, occurs when female dogs or cats cannot reproduce for one reason or another. While some of these pets can produce eggs, others cannot. Other conditions that may cause sterility in dogs and cats include chromosomal abnormalities and ovarian abnormalities.
