Tarry Stools

It can be painful and difficult for the pet to defecate. Tarry stools in pets, known as melena, are characterized by black feces that range from runny to gelatinous. This condition can develop in both cats and dogs when there is blood in the intestines due to various health issues. Some of the most common reasons for tarry stools in cats and dogs include gastrointestinal ulcers, intestinal infections, drug toxicity, trauma, clotting disorders and kidney failure.
