Tenderness of the Jaw

A discomfort and pain in the jaw of a dog or cat when pressure is applied to the skin overlying the jaw bone. Tenderness of the jaw can occur in both cats and dogs and can indicate a variety of health issues. Perhaps some of the most common reasons that pets may experience tenderness of the jaw include injuries, trauma and abscesses. However, other things that can cause tenderness of the jaw in cats and dogs are periodontal disease, gingivitis, debris stuck in the teeth and teeth overcrowding.
