Slightly taller than a dachshund, the rare drever is another formidable hunter of burrowing game. The drever is also a lively household companion. The drever was developed in Sweden from the weshpalian dachsbracke and other hounds during the early 1900s. The breed, whose Swedish name means to hunt, was created to accompany hunters and drive the targets toward the guns. By 1949, the Swedish Kennel Club recognized the drever. The breed is rare outside of its original country, but it remains the most popular dog in Sweden.

The triangular ears hang downward, and the curved tail is carried downward.

Appearance

A drever's smooth coat requires little grooming. Wiping the coat down with a grooming mitt every week will remove dead hairs and keep the coat looking glossy. Look in the dog's ears every week, and keep them clean and dry to minimize the chances of developing ear infections. Prevent periodontal disease and maintain good overall health by brushing the teeth every other day.
