The Pit has a negative reputation because they are the breed most often preferred for dog fighting rings. Why is this? Of course, they are extremely powerful dogs. Liability Insurance

Due to their poor reputation, owners of rental properties often do not allow the pit bull or if they do, require liability insurance to be purchased. Homeowners insurance sometimes will not cover this breed which makes liability insurance that much more important. Liability insurance will cover items in case an incident was to occur. There are several breeds included in this assumption including the German Shepherd, Rottweiler and Doberman.
