How do you clicker train your cat? Cats are much different than dogs and therefore clicker training a cat is much different than clicker training a dog. Most people do not believe a cat can be trained; this not true, a cat can be trained if using the correct steps.
- You should always have treats nearby when using the clicker to train your cat. In order to be successful in training, you must give your cat a treat each time the click is heard. You should reward any sort of good behavior to allow the cat to associate the good behavior with the treat.
- You should ensure the area is quiet when clicker training your cat. If you have any other pets, you should make sure they are in a different room to gain your cat’s full attention.
- Be sure not to click any other time other than during good behavior when cat clicker training your feline.
- When clicker training a pup, you need only give one treat. This is different when clicker training a cat. Cats need to see a large reward; this means you need to reward the cat with several treats and several clicks when a good behavior is being rewarded.
- You should not talk to your feline when cat clicker training. The click noise serves as the vocalization.
- You can teach your cat to sit by holding a treat above his head and moving your hand back further; the cat should naturally sit so their head will follow the treat. Once the cat sits, click and treat. Repeat this procedure often. You can use this procedure with following other desired behaviors as well.
Training your cat via clicker training can be extremely effective and is a great method to use when teaching your cat good behaviors. The cat can be taught to use the litterbox, to sit and perform other behaviors with cat clicker training.
